Antisemitic Graffiti Found at NYU Weinstein Dorm

In the second related incident since the start of the fall semester, the NYU community received notice that on Tuesday, a freshman student at the Weinstein Hall dormitory discovered that their door had been vandalized with antisemitic graffiti. This comes just over a week after a mezuzah was stolen from another student’s doorframe at Weinstein Hall.

President Linda Mills shared a memorandum with the NYU community stating that “the targeting of a Jewish student is inexcusable raw hatred,” and that “NYU has a zero-tolerance policy towards antisemitism and other forms of hatred.”

Vice President for Global Campus Security, Fountain Walker, also mentioned this no-tolerance policy in his memorandum from last week, stating that “theft or vandalism of religious objects, symbols, and spaces is utterly at odds with [the] University’s values and a gross violation of [its] rules.”

According to President Mills, the graffiti has been cleaned from the door, and the incident is being “vigorously investigated.” Mills added a request that students “uphold our values and send an unambiguous signal about the kind of behavior we won’t stand for in our community.”

The NYU Review is monitoring the situation for further developments. Stay tuned for more updates.
